VH1′s “Greatest Woman in Pop” contest has come to an end and, unsurprisingly, the winner is our very own Mother Monster! After narrowly beating out her competition in the first two rounds, Gaga won the final round against Mariah Carey by a landslide.
Her little monsters have often been called the hardest-working fans in show business, and for good reason. Gaga’s little monsters cast nearly 40,000 votes for her in the final round alone, granting her a 12% lead over Mariah.
Congratulations to Lady Gaga, the Greatest Woman in Pop!

Congratulations to Gaga and the LMs! I really do feel that she is the greatest woman in pop, and she’ll go down as one of the greats–I mean, she’s the total package, her singing, writing music, performing, artistic conception, the iconic videos, fashion, directing, et al.
I know that the general consensus is Madonna is the greatest female pop star as she is the “template” of future pop stars. The way I see it, is that Madonna actually made pop music worse, as she showed that it was okay to lip synch and use autotune as long as you have the image and sex appeal–I think that was Joni Mitchell’s critism of Madonna, whereas Gaga is turning this around and elevating pop music to art, by writing her own music and actually singing live and playing a real instrument, directing, producing. But even though I’m throwing shade on Madonna, I do have to say a lot of credit should go to Madge for paving the way of female pop stars, and her influence. So maybe Gaga #1, Madonna #2??
