Lady Gaga News: The Week In Gaga September 19 – 25

September 28, 2011 in News, The Week In Gaga by Scott Finley

A weekly recap of the most relevant and interesting Lady Gaga news of the past seven days.

Welcome back to Lady Gaga News: The Week In Gaga. This was a roller coaster of a week for Gaga and her fans, full of emotional highs and one extreme emotional low. Let’s cover the bad news first and then we’ll move on to the positive.

  • On Monday, September 19, the reports of Jamey Rodemeyer’s suicide were confirmed. Jamey was a 14-year-old boy who ended his life after being bullied over his sexual orientation.

We have a lot of Lady Gaga news to cover this week, but none of it is anywhere near as important as the life of this boy and the bullying epidemic that is claiming life after life. It needs to stop.

If you are a victim of bullying, please know that it does get better and that there is always hope. You are not alone and it is not your fault that you are being bullied. If the people around you are not listening to you and you need support, please visit teenlineonline.org or www.thetrevorproject.org. There is someone you can talk to who will listen and understand.

We’re going to move on from the topic of Jamey Rodemeyer for now, but as you will see later on in the article, Jamey’s story did not end with his suicide. Here is a recap of the other Lady Gaga news of the week.

  • The nominations for this year’s MTV EMAs were revealed early in the week, and Lady Gaga leads to pack with six nominations.
  • A special remix album of ‘Yoü and I’ was released to iTunes and Amazon on Monday, featuring mixes from Metronomy, Wild Beasts, Mark Taylor and more. Simply click on the photo of Jo Calderone on the sidebar to the right of this article to be taken to the album’s page on iTunes!
  • Lady Gaga visited the MetLife Stadium Monday night to watch the New York Giants face-off against the St. Louis Rams. Click here for more information and photos of Gaga attending the game.
  • LaurieAnn Gibson’s ‘Born To Dance’ had a very special guest this week: Mother Monster herself! Check out Gaga’s brief, but powerful contribution to the show below.

Now, as we mentioned, Jamey Rodemeyer’s story did not end with his death. The latter half of the week in Lady Gaga news was dominated by Jamey, and Gaga’s response to his suicide.

  • On Wednesday, September 21, Gaga sent out a series of tweets in response to Jamey’s death. She expressed her grief and anger, but also made a rather bold statement in one particular tweet. Gaga tweeted, “I am meeting with our President. I will not stop fighting. This must end. Our generation has the power to end it. Trend it #MakeALawForJamey.”
  • Lady Gaga fulfilled her promise to meet with the President on by attending an Obama fundraiser in Palo Alto, California on Sunday. Gaga purchased a $38,000 dollar ticket to the fundraiser on the spur of the moment just to have the chance to discuss bullying and Jamey’s death with President Obama.
  • On Saturday night, Lady Gaga closed out the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas with an incredible two-hour set. Her entire show was fantastic, but one number in particular stood out as the highlight of the evening. Gaga performed her song ‘Hair’ as a tribute to Jamey, and also discussed his life and death, as well as the issue of bullying during the performance.

We have all been deeply saddened by Jamey’s death. The bullying he endured is unacceptable. There is no making up for the tragedy that has occurred, but we are slightly comforted by the notion that there is a lesson that we as a society can learn from what happened to him. Bullying does not have to be tolerated. It’s time to get serious about dealing with this issue. We are glad that there are people in the world such as Lady Gaga who care enough to push for change. Jamey, we love you and we are so very sorry that you had to experience such pain and suffering. #RIPJamey.

Third ‘Yoü And I’ Fashion Film Released

September 20, 2011 in New Releases, News by Gagaism.org

Lady Gaga’s latest ‘Yoü and I’ fashion film shines a spotlight on the enigmatic Yüyi the Mermaid.

Did Yüyi direct the music video?

Lady Gaga has done it again! The third fashion film in the series, ‘HAUS OF Ü ft. Yüyi’ stars none other than the magical being that is Yüyi the Mermaid. In an interesting twist, this clip takes a behind-the-scenes approach and shows Yüyi being carried from her trailer to the set of the music video. She is also seen sitting in what appears to be a director’s chair.

What does it all mean? Perhaps we’ll find out when the next two films are released. We can’t wait!

‘Yoü And I’ Remix Album Now Available!

September 19, 2011 in New Releases, News by Gagaism.org

Lady Gaga’s latest single ‘Yoü and I’ has been given the remix treatment by talented artists and groups such as Metronomy, Mark Taylor, Wild Beasts, and ATB. The seven-track ‘Yoü and I’ remix album has just been released on iTunes and Amazon for only $5.99.

This is an eclectic set of remixes. The Metronomy remix has a very modern, minimalist vibe to it. The lyrics are mostly intact but the song is otherwise quite different. The Wild Beasts remix is a hypnotic electro-piano hybrid that rearranges Gaga’s lyrics into entirely new phrases.

Our favorite remix comes from Grammy Award-winning record producer Mark Taylor. He changes ‘Yoü and I’ just enough to make the remix feel distinct from the original, while retaining most of its structure and tone. If you’ve been itching for a more electronic, Edge of Glory-esque version of ‘Yoü and I,’ this is the remix for you.

Purchase your digital copy of the ‘Yoü and I’ remix today and keep your eyes peeled for the remix cd coming to stores soon!

Second ‘Yoü And I’ Fashion Film Released

September 13, 2011 in New Releases, News by Gagaism.org

Lady Gaga released her second fashion film for ‘Yoü and I’ this afternoon entitled, ‘HAUS OF Ü ft. BRIDE.’

The video is shot in a similar style to the ‘Nymph’ video (which you can see here), but it’s has a fair bit more going on. Unlike the first video, this one features several people including Gaga, her love interest/captor from the video, the video’s ice cream truck owner, Nicola Formichetti (we think), and a handful of little monsters.

Gaga never forgets her little monsters!

Based on the title, you may be expecting to see more of Gaga in her white wedding dress from the video. However, Gaga never does the expected. Take a look at the video below and let us know what you think!

Lady Gaga Releases The First Of Five New Videos For ‘Yoü And I’

September 1, 2011 in New Releases, News by Gagaism.org

Gaga’s not finished with ‘Yoü and I’ just yet!

That’s right! Gaga announced earlier today that she shot an additional five videos for ‘Yoü and I,’ and she released the first one just a few hours later. ‘HAUS OF Ü feat. NYPMH’ is a brief black and white video featuring Gaga (or perhaps Nymph) dancing and smiling into the camera.

Are these images of Gaga or Nymph?

The video is short, sweet, and very simple. It’s stunningly beautiful though. Watch the video below, and let us know what you think of it in the comments. We will post the others when they are released.

Jo Calderone And Brian May Open 2011 VMAs With Lady Gaga’s ‘Yoü And I’

August 28, 2011 in News by Gagaism.org

Jo Calderone appears for the first time in public.

Despite being told that Lady Gaga would open this year’s VMAs, she was nowhere to be found. Instead, Jo Calderone took the stage and performed Gaga’s ‘Yoü and I’ with Queen’s Brian May playing the guitar. (The rumors were true after all!) Based on what Jo said, it would appear that his relationship with Gaga is a bit tumultuous. Perhaps that’s why Gaga was unable to join him on the stage. Billboard has already reviewed the performance, calling it “downright Oscar-worthy.”

Update: Check out this interview with Jo given after his performance tonight. He’s a bit foul-mouthed, but quite funny.
